Ideas for a Kosher Traveler
The menu is varied, the staff is friendly and accommodating, the prices are reasonable, and all dishes I tried were delicious. Isn’t it fortunate, when the only kosher centrally-located restaurant is also an amazing one?
This was an ultra-short trip with the sole goal: to walk the famous 3.5 mi Cliff Walk in Newport, RI. The promise of breathtaking ocean vistas along the path lined with impressive gilded-age mansions was duly fulfilled. But let’s get to it chronologically.
Root is an unexpected find in the historic downtown of Newport, RI. It is a small inviting place on Broadway, certified by Rabbi Mandel of the nearby Touro Synagogue. Their entire menu is plant-based with an emphasis on fresh and healthy choices, including a line-up of refreshing juices and smoothies, breakfast and grain bowls, and creative sandwiches.
Visiting White Mountains, which cover a sizable chunk of the state of New Hampshire, has long been on my bucket list. It is one of the prime destinations for “leaf peepers” in the fall, boasting a superb foliage scenery. However, my husband and I jumped on this trip opportunity in the summer, with both of our kids away in overnight camp. We focused our trip on the area between the towns of Lincoln, North Conway and Bretton Woods, rich in outdoor attractions.
Yosi Kosher Catering is a food service facility under the supervision of Harford Kosher Council, which specializes in Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. They have both meat and dairy kitchens, and offer catering, takeout and delivery services in the area, as well as supply local Whole Food stores with some freshly-made packaged meals.
My husband and I just came back from a short getaway in South Florida, after not having visited Miami for 15 years. Last time there, we were not aware of it being such a “kosher foodie” destination, and, in fact, back then it wasn’t.
